Last year, more than 20,000 URJ-affiliated advocates, rabbis, teens, and others from across North America visited Congress, wrote to lawmakers, studied social justice, or participated in rallies to advance criminal justice reform, immigration reform, racial justice, civil rights, climate change, reproductive rights, and more. REPAIRING THE WORLD Israel The Reform Movement in North America, with the URJ at the center, engages with Israel in transformative ways. In addition to our leaders, who advocate for equality and pluralism in the Jewish State, we engage North American Jews in joyful, meaningful Israeli experiences, providing them with opportunities to demonstrate their love and support for a Jewish and democratic state. Highlights from our endeavors in 2015 include ongoing efforts by our leaders to upend the status quo at the Kotel (the Western Wall) in Jerusalem to create one Wall for one people, as well as to strengthen Reform Jewry in Israel. Thousands of teens and young adults visited Israel last year as participants in our programs, including NFTY in Israel and Reform-sponsored Birthright Israel trips. The URJ also engaged with Israel as the largest delegation to the World Zionist Congress in Jerusalem and through Biennial conversations with Member of Knesset Stav Shaffir and others, promoting our vision of a just, pluralistic Israel.
